Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why did Yoga Festival Toronto move to a membership model? Weren’t you doing well?
    • We were doing great, but our vision was bigger than three days long. We wanted to foster community, and we were limiting ourselves by needing to sell a single event.

  2. If I become a member, will I still be able to register for the Festival classes I want?
    • Yes. Your membership will allow you to use our online registration for the event, and zero-out your total with a special code. As before, classes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The morning asana classes are the only classes with space restrictions. We will add more asana classes as needed if they sell out.

  3. What’s a roundtable discussion?
    • These are signature events of the YOCOTO vibe. An evening with 4-5 prominent community teachers, 1 juicy topic, many perspectives, lively debate, sattvic resolutions…

  4. I don’t live in Toronto. Why should I become a member?
    • Because it’s a cheap way of attending the whole Festival! Plus, you’ll be able to keep in touch with the Toronto yogi-friends you make while you’re in town, and we’ll do our best to lure you back to town with our other year-round events.

  5. Are you affiliated with a particular lineage?
    • No. Between our 7 current staffers, we’ve absorbed 200-hour (and more) programmes from about 12 different sources and lineages. Our studies and interests are broad and non-denominational. We see yoga as an open-source knowledge, and are fascinated not only by its various forms, but how they interact with each other, through time, and in the present moment.

  6. Is there child care available at the Festival?
    • Not currently. This has been a difficult request to fulfill, involving staffing and insurance frictions. We would be most interested in hearing from community members who would like to volunteer to make this happen.

  7. Isn’t yoga supposed to be free? Why would I pay to join a yoga organization?
    • The technology of yoga is priceless, and therefore always offered freely by those with integrity. It’s the daily support structures for yogic learning and practice that cost money: studios, temples, etc. In the earliest days of yoga, this support manifested through a teacher’s household or through maintaining a local place of contemplation. The $285 YOCOTO members pay into the collective membership pool simply supports the logistics of connection.
